Thomas Chippendale Mahogany Pillar and claw tripod table
This table was my college 'Master piece' and helped me achieve the
'Polisher of the year award' 1992 with it being lightly distressed
The 'Piecrust' detail around the table top was all carved by hand,
a machine cannot cut this section..
the pillar was turned, then the fluting and carving detail added later
Parts of the design are from differing areas within the United Kingdom,
as well as Philadelphia and other states of America, like the gun barrels of the birdcage..
This table was exhibited at the Woodworker show, at Sandown Park, Esher Surrey
in 1992, and achieved Highly Commended (4th place) just behind another piece of mine
The birdcage allows the table to be tilted and rotated to any position
Old woodworking planes were used to make parts of the table
including a rare Stanley No.113 Compass plane and Stanley No. 50 Plough plane
For full authenticity, and restoration, the legs were dovetailed into the pillar
and hide glue used for easy removal should a leg get broken
The ball and claw foot, with undercut into the 'skin' between the Talons
